Ten years after a fire destroyed Minaki Lodge, an 89-year-old resort in Northern Ontario, a plan to revitalize the ruined property and the area it services was unveiled to the public.

Minaki on the River, a local development team, have a dream to restore the resort destination to it’s

former greatness.

The 2003 fire left behind ruins that presented not just an eyesore, but a  safety hazard. The developers have been hard at  work on the site,  spending nearly half a million dollars to clean up the charred remains at  the site (photos of the clean-up  here). And now, after a lengthy design  process, they have a plan that they believe makes sense for Minaki — one that will  not only revive tourism in the region, but will do so in a way that will respect the fragile beauty of the natural environment and be sustainable for the long-term.

Located on the site of the former Minaki Lodge, the project will provide cost-effective lakefront ownership in a natural setting, with amenities such as fishing, swimming, boating, hiking and tennis available on site. When complete, the redevelopment will consist of a 56-unit apartment-style condominium utilizing two existing low-rise buildings formerly occupied as the Minaki Lodge. Add to that 73 lots to be sold as seasonal cottage lots, along with nine existing cabins (eight of which are heritage) and a restaurant.
